AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OMAHA/VALLEY NE
300 AM CST SUN DEC 10 2000

WILL PLACE MOST EMPHASIS ON SHORT TERM CONDITIONS...SNOW...BLOWING
SNOW AND WIND.  SURFACE ANALYSIS EARLY THIS MORNING SHOWED HIGH PRES OVER THE NRN PLAINS.  LOW PRES CENTERS WERE LOCATED OVER NERN NM AND IN SWRN MO.  WATER VAPOR SATELLITE IMAGERY INDICATED A STRONG VORT MAX AND SHORTWAVE OVER CO.  QUITE A BIT OF LIGHTNING ACTIVITY WAS NOTED WITH THAT FEATURE LAST EVENING.  THERE APPEARED TO BE SOME COUPLING OF THE JET MAX OVER THE GREAT LAKES AND THE ONE OVER KS/OK.
850 MB LOW SHOULD CONTINUE TO LIFT NEWD ACROSS MO THIS MORNING AND ALLOW WINDS IN OUR AREA TO INCREASE.  AS THE LOW TRACKS NEWD AND THE  850 MB JET CONTINUES TO MOVE AWAY...ISENTROPIC DOWNGLIDE WILL OVERSPREAD OUR AREA.  SNOW SO FAR HAS BEEN HEAVIEST S OF A LINE FROM KOLU TO KTQE AND KDNS.  THINK AMOUNTS SHOULD REACH SIX INCHES AND WILL GO WITH A WARNING FOR ABOUT SRN HALF OF FCST AREA.  THIS WOULD
BE FROM COLFAX...DODGE...WASHINGTON...HARRISON AND SHELBY COUNTIES SOUTH.  WITH SURFACE TEMPERATURES AROUND ZERO ITS NO WONDER THAT  SNOWFALL TO WATER EQUIVALENT RATIOS EXCEEDED 2O TO 1.  SWRN IA MAY SEE SOME AMOUNTS OVER SIX INCHES SINCE INTENSITY SHOULD DECREASE THE  LATEST THERE.

SNOW SHOULD BE TAPERING OFF AND CONDITIONS IMPROVING BY AFTN...SO  FEEL THAT WARNING IS JUSTIFIED ONLY FOR THIS MORNING.  BLOWING SNOW  AND COLD WIND CHILLS AND A LITTLE LIGHT SNOW MAY LINGER THIS AFTN.

WINTER WEATHER ADVY WILL BE ISSUED FOR ALL DAY NRN PART OF FCST AREA...WITH COMBINATION OF BITTER WIND CHILLS...SOME SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW.  EXPECT LITTLE RECOVERY OF TEMPERATURES TODAY.  CLOUDS SHOULD BREAK UP SOME TNGT...WITH WIND DECREASING.  SO...HAVE DROPPED LOWS TNGT ABOUT 5 DEGREES OR SO.  WE DO SEE SOME WARM ADVECTION ON TUESDAY...BUT EVEN WITH SOME SUNSHINE FEEL THAT NGM MOS IS A LITTLE WARM BECAUSE OF THE FRESH SNOW.  MIGHT ADJUST 3-7 DAY FCST A BIT AFTER LOOKING OVER THE LATEST MEDIUM RANGE GUIDANCE...MAINLY TO SLOW WARMUP LATE IN THE WEEK.  PLAN ON HAVING FINAL ZFP OUT EARLY.

.OMA...WINTER STORM WARNING...THIS MORNING ALONG AND S OF A LINE   FROM ABOUT KOLU TO KHNR.  THEN A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY  THIS AFTN.
WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY TODAY NERN NE AND MONONA COUNTY IA.  MILLER.
